Daily Update: When You Were Young, Milo Greene and 40 Days of Dating

I promised myself that I would blog as often as possible but I have to admit I'm a pretty lazy person also trying to clean the house for four aunts visiting tonight and planning 2 years abroad to study political science and international relations. So maybe I should cut myself some slack, right? Naww, as my old ex-Israeli director gym teacher would say, "120% OF YOUR ABILITYYYYY!!!".

Currently listening to this because I've had it stuck in my head all morning:

I also happen to have a major headache but that could be from sleeping at 6 AM every day for the past week and missing breakfast for that same period of time. But I can't think about that. I must get the house cleaner than clean. IKEA-ready, if you know what I mean. And quickly too, because I have a pot-luck on the Toronto Islands today and I'm not going to pass on the opportunity for stir-fry vegetables and cakecakecake.

In recent days, here are the most notable things I've dealt with:

I found this band thanks to a show I'm currently trying to catch up on, Supernatural. Love the show but some of the fan-fic I tell you...my nun aunt would cry herself to sleep. Also, people getting the guys' demon protection tattoo... that's a little extra for me. But the music on that show I find can be very good. Sooo, on the latest episode I was able to watch, I found Milo Greene.

They call their music "cinematic-pop" and I couldn't agree more. Other songs worth checking include 1957 and Silent Way. And in case you're interested, they even have a film that goes with the self-entitled début album called Moddison: if I'm not mistaken, their album is pretty much a story broken down into several music videos.

Also, there's this little dating experiment that I found thanks to Jezebel. It sounds pretty intense, but kind of nice actually.

To see Jessica and Timothy's full daily questionnaire, head to the 40 Days of Dating website.

Alright folks, it's been real, but it's time to head to the real world and get some shit done. PEACE. xxoo

Life: News From My Bed

Life is a whole different world from my bed. I am a queen here. It doesn't matter that my kingdom looks like Afghanistan on a bad day, that I deserve a nice shower or that I've only been able to drag my ass out of bed for one meal out of three today. Life on this beautiful mattress is the dream. How so?
For starters I get to watch as many Supernatural episodes as I wish. Currently trying to buckle up and finish Season 3. I still have Arrested Development, Luther, The Wire, Misfits, Skins (UK version, duh)... and Suits is starting soon. I'm running a tight ship on an even tighter schedule here people! So much TV (and movies, which I won't even start on yet, so little time...)
I was also been able to talk to my Venezuelan cousins, which is always a good opportunity to practice Spanish. Speaking of which, I have music for you!! (All Aventura music of course!)

Explicame por que razon no me miras la cara...
I wish some hot Spanish dude would serenade me like that lol.

I think that's all I did for today. But at least I'm being positive about it and not calling myself a sloth or loser.

Also, a few words of advice: don't go see The Bling Ring...The trailer should have been warning enough but I went to see it like 2 days ago and hum...no. No. NOOOO. I may have lost a few IQ points just watching it, the movie was just oozing with ridiculous, idiotic behaviour. And it's really too bad, because I loved the soundtrack. Ohhh well. Best songs you ask?

Get past the bad words. That beat is pure genius.

Come on, this is kind of cute right? The next one also has M.I.A. because she's just that cool. Anyone else remember Paper Planes?

Live fast, die young, bad girls do it well...
Those words alone describe the very essence of the movie.

And this song by Sleigh Bells describes the veneer of teenage invincibility banging heads in unison on a hot summer day in a convertible. Which is super catchy. And almost makes me want to move to California.

Dear Diary: They We're Right

Dear Diary,

They we're right. No, not the people putting me down, telling me my hair looks like a hot mess or that I need to lose a few pounds. Not the idiots who thought I was a good time until I refused to give in and give head. And not my parents, who wanted me to be a dentist or doctor. There's nothing wrong with them wanting me to be financially secure. It just so happens I want my life to take another direction all together. As long as that future doesn't involve guns, fraud , jail time or/and prostitution, I think they'll be fine.

I won't even go as far as saying that the people reminding me every day I'm not the piece of shit I see every morning we're right and I am beautiful and talented and blablabla. I'm not there yet. I'm not in a place in my life where I can look myself in the mirror and say "You look awesome!" without mocking myself or denying that very thought 2 seconds later.

No, the people who said I had to maybe cheer up, may have possibly touched in something important.

As it turns out, I've been procrastinating a lot. All that extra time on my hands is perfect for self-criticising, self-loathing, self-destructiveness...It's funny, for someone who hates herself so much, it turns out all those "self-somethings" are just the reflection of my over inflated ego. Anyways, because of all this negative energy, all I can think about is putting myself out of my own misery -- not necessarily death but like, social suicide or something. Sooo, since none of those are very good options, the next best thing is to drown myself with TV series and lots of ice cream (the weather demands it!). However, my morning swim in this pool of dark thoughts and sweat was interrupted today by my lunch date with M.

M is a great guy. He knows how to cheer me up. We're so similar and we've been around each other so much we can just guess each others moods -- though the fact we're terrible at hiding what a terrible day we're having is one of the things that makes us so similar. In good old M fashion, he told me to pretty much get my shit together. Which is a very good idea. Or maybe not even plaster a fake smile on my face for the rest of my life and become the President of Swaziland, but at least be a little less pessimistic. Let a little sunshine through my window or something. So here's me being positive.

1. I had a free lunch today. M. paid for it so I got to indulge in the awesomeness of Indian food with none of the financial pain.

2. M. gave me a laptop today. You know, this beautiful piece of machinery would be perfect if only anything "Microsoft" related refuses to work though I HAVE the stupid product key.

3. (In none M. related news...) I for my first scholarship!! (see I'm being positive! Switched that "only" to a "first"! Maybe this is working?!?) And not a tiny one too, a nice fat 5 000 euros worth.

So there, Dear Diary, this is the story of me being positive. As a sign of good faith, I will write more often about good things in my life.

Happy?

Life: Little Things

After being 30 minutes late to your therapist's and talking about fun stuff such as but not limited to being able to draw parallels between your father and a dictator, your death, your emotional distress when things don't go your way (let's say you have mild OCD) and a bunch of other bright lovely things... you don't know what to do with yourself anymore. You try to go find your old dance teacher who could shake you out of any bad mood, but you forgot today's a holiday, and just your luck, her gorgeous son you still haven't the balls to ask to prom is there, but not her. You try to find your old peaceful place, this little bookstore you found once by mistake, but you can't anymore. You spend all of your savings on stuff for your mom. You paid 10$ of food and not only are you not hungry, but you feel like puking the 10$'s worth of Subway and Tim Horton's straight out. Sooo, what do you do? You head home to do your homework. But to make yourself feel better, you choose the ultimate transportation for angry musings and upset stomachs and poetic energy bottled up that hasn't found a way to express itself yet.

This my friends, is where most of my magic happens. Not what you'd expect, but it's quite good in terms of a chill place to chill after a back-to-back cigarette moment. Cheers to crappy transportation and calming yourself the fuck down.

Life: Going To Good Saturday Mass

Ahh yes... the joyful sounds of a congregation in unity with its God... quite a joyous event indeed, unless you are in what I would call a irritable disposition. Or as others would say, in a "bitch mood". And so at 7:30PM, I dolled myself all up to go join other unfortunate souls that would have to endure 3 hours worth of this. Anyhow, I'm not a total Catholic-hater, even though I've been an official member of the Roman Catholic Church for 17 years now. I was a bad mood, and it just happens that tonight's mass is getting all the shit for it. First and foremost, I would like to say that it wasn't that bad. Actually, the whole celebration was all in all uneventful. Except:

1. The woman behind me shamelessly engaging in social farting, burping and noise disturbance. Kind of reminds me of this. Like, we're in a church, lady.

2. The Little Gremlin shouting "I WANT MY CANDLE BACK" out of his wits during what is supposed to be a special endearing moment with like a thousand lights shinning bright at the same time. If I'm not mistaken, the Papa Gremlin also proceeded in taking pictures of said Little Gremlin (a few times) during mass. Once more, has it not occurred to people that they are celebrating the Death and Resurrection of a guy who'd like a little respect? No? You rather Instagram that shit? Ok then...

3. The choir members who, during their solos, thought it best to abandon all notion of musicality and breath mid-sentence, or not hold a note properly, or just say "SCREW PITCH" altogether. Ok, I'm being picky but come one. If I can't enjoy my Gregorian chants the way they should be, maybe Jesus won't come the way he should either. Like, with a missing leg or eye. Or maybe he'll be so thrown off balance thinking, "Haven't I given them enough time to prepare for all this?!!?!?" that he'll just walk by the door. So yeah.

4. The standing and sitting and standing and sitting. I know I can't make up my mind sometimes, but you're a priest for God's sake! Isn't your job in life to meditate on such important matter,s capable of keeping the last remaining sheep on board with all this shit? Also, I don't want to turn this into a political debate but... when the priest starts mentioning compassion and love, my skin cringes, my hairline recedes a few meters, my teeth and nails fall out and I literally turn to dust. It's kinda like, "Yo Bro, don't rap 'bout som'thin you kno nothin' 'bout, you kno what I'm sayin'?" with the bad grammar and all.

5. The smell of incense. Which hihi sounds a lot like incest. But please, let's us not make references to inappropriate behavior while talking about such serious matters. God, the smell. I had debate all the while walking to church whether or not to grill a cig before the mass murder of my numerous neurons. Upon entering the house of God, I realized that there would have been no issues, since the place stank of smoke. At which point I cursed for all my careful planning had been in vain. I guess the priests we're going all out: drunk and high, all in one night. What would Papa God/Jesus/Holy Spirit say? But the greater question is, how could these people, having vowed a life of chastity and poverty and stuff, be living it up way better than me? One of the great mysteries of life I guess.

HIGHTLIGHT OF MY NIGHT: What could beat the Vietnamese priest's accent. Nothing. Exactly. Also, why couldn't the Pope be Vietnamese. That would of been totally badass.

All in all, not a bad mass. I was able to regroup at home, watching re-runs of Criminal Minds while eating Candbery eggs. So, all this to say

HAPPY EASTER/PASSOVER/LONG WEEKEND

(For those still interested in the good stuff aka Gregorian chants)

Motivation

as the vacuum sucks up
specks of unwanted dust
and my last aspirations

i think to myself
"how will you save the world
when you are so lazy and tired?"

i tried coffee, which i drank at three
but it was quite late and i couldn't
escape the pull of the pillow

i tried yoga for enhanced flexibility
both in mind and in spirit
but got bruises and sore muscles instead

i went to great lengths to find
motivation to work and slave
and sweat and get to it

but i found no motivation at all
just an ice cream bucket
and a good romantic comedy
so that i could feel sorry
for myself

Life: Babysitting And Such...

By the time you've read the title, you are quite aware of what job position I've held for the past 4 days: that's right, I was a lovely, determined and caring member of the Babysitting Society. I had to wake up at 8:00AM every morning (7:45, if I wanted a little 15 minute personal yoga session with my Ipod), try not to miss the 9:00AM bus Est, and arrive at 10:00AM sharp, even after a quick Tim Hortons coffee and chocolate chip muffin. What did I do most of the time, you ask? What did I actually do these past 4 days, for a total of 24 hours (yes, a day!) of my life? Well, I played played hide and seek and manhunt, made (bland) ravioli, watched every imaginable Harry Potter movie (except the first because just no, and the seventh part 2 becasue they didn't have it -- terrible mistake: they weren't aware Harry Potter won at the end, surrounded by his friends (the ones that survive --DOBBBYYY :'( )  in a crumbling Hogwarts) went to Subway, played piano and played this game:

Which I lost. EVERY. TIME.

But the time was also educational. I exposed the young 8 and 11-year-olds too Macklemore...

"I touched the net. MAMMA I TOUCHED THE NET!!" is now a secret code too us, which I cannot share with you all for obvious reasons.

and One Direction.

This song has been playing non stop in my head for about 28 hours now. MAKE IT STOP!!!

Needless to say, I had so much fun the 288$ I made in the process were just an added bonus.
